On July 20th, Gen-Connect visited CHATS, where they continued to spread the gift of peace and warmth through their live music.

After a brief introduction conducted by Brianna Nita, Reuben Varghese and Ethan Bui, the performers were ready to step up to the stage, starting with Maylin Bui. Despite the difficulty of the composition, along with only a week of practice, Bui tap danced to "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder as if it were her own song. Following the successful start of the event, Frank Qian shifted the momentum onto the cello, where he performed the piece "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White."

This iconic song, combined with genres of pop and jazz, made the audience self-consciously tap their shoes to the beat. Everyone in attendance, including Qian, was fully immersed in this cover and couldn't help but smile at this piece. This reminiscence carried onto the early '60s, when Brianna Nita sung "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley. This song was a favourite amongst the audience and resulted in a never-ending applause. Following this performance was Aidan Leung, who played "Rhapsody in Blue" on the piano. Throughout this piece, people were found clapping and tapping to the beat, while the emotions of Leung reached everyone's hearts. Russel and Hugo Bui took the stage next, with their heartwarming version of "7 Years." Their harmony displayed the beautiful progression of life and gave us all a chance to reflect on our past.

The melancholy emotions remained present in Frank Qian's second solo, when his song, "Four Romantic Pieces No.1" touched upon many themes, including the bittersweet emotions experienced by love. This piece struck everybody emotionally and left the rest in awe. Shifting back to singing, Brianna Nita filled us up with joy by singing "Hopelessly Devoted to You" by Olivia Newton-John. Her bright voice enhanced the connotation of this song and allowed the audience to be 'hopelessly devoted' to the performance.

After the end of the song, Brianna Nita, along with Frank Qian, conducted Gen-Connect's tradition of wishing a happy birthday to those born in summer months. There were two members of the audience who had a summer birthday, and were congratulated by everyone. Nita and Qian stayed on the stage after the celebration, and were soon joined by Reuben Varghese. The audience requested Nita and Varghese to sing another song for them, and Qian accompanied the duet with his cello. This unexpected trio produced an amazing cover of "Fly Me To the Moon" by the legendary Frank Sinatra, and had the audience dancing to the rhythm.

This memorable duet concluded yet another event, and was a huge success thanks to the wonderful audience from CHATS, as well as the Gen-Connect team. A special thanks to all of the performers, and we hope you return for future events!
